SymbolismThe first and fourth quarters are the traditional arms of the Thomas baronets of Yapton Place, in England. Lord Willingdon’s great-grandfather assumed the Thomas surname of his maternal grandfather, as well as the use of the Thomas arms. The second and third quarters are based on arms used by Freeman families in County Northampton, England. The blue bands are likely a mark of difference to indicate that Lord Willingdon’s ancestors were younger sons. |
