The Canadian Heraldic Authority, of which I am the head, marks its 25th anniversary today. Our heralds use their skills and enthusiasm to create arms, flags and badges for families and corporate bodies across Canada.
Coats of arms bring together different generations. My granddaughter helped me choose the supporters for my arms, unicorns, which are symbols of imagination and faithfulness. As heraldry in Canada can be transmitted by women as well as by men, my five daughters, who are symbolized by the five books in my crest, will eventually pass on my coat of arms to their children and grandchildren.
Heraldry proudly speaks of who we are in a lively and meaningful way. I invite you to find out more about the work of the Canadian Heraldic Authority by exploring the online Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada and by visiting our Facebook page.
Long live Canadian heraldry!
