Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of Canadian Multiculturalism Day
OTTAWA—Four decades have passed since Canada became the world’s first country to officially adopt a policy on multiculturalism. In that time, we have grown as a nation, and our diversity has become a vital part of our global identity.
Each and every person in this country deserves equal opportunity to reach their full potential. That is why I am proud to see individuals, organizations and communities across Canada working to build up a common cause and understanding in the face of intolerance and prejudice.
Today, on Multiculturalism Day, I encourage all Canadians to celebrate our diversity and realize that together we are so much more.
