Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General of Canada, on the Occasion of the
Journée internationale de la Francophonie

OTTAWA— I am pleased to join with Canadians in marking the Journée internationale de la Francophonie, with this year’s theme, “Make Way for Talent.”

I salute the creativity and energy that inspires all Francophiles, in Canada and in French-speaking communities throughout the world. As a universal language of choice, French has long been one of the predominant languages of diplomacy and innovation, when one thinks of the arts, sciences and technology. The Francophonie is also about promoting education and training, and fostering cooperation to ensure sustainable development.

The Journée internationale de la Francophonie is a wonderful opportunity for all those who love the French language to stay united, promote their culture, and strengthen Canada’s linguistic duality, which makes us all stronger.

Make Way for Talent!

David Johnston
