Message from the Governor General of Canada
on the Occasion of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day
OTTAWA—The roots of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day reach far into the ancient heart of the summer solstice. In its modern incarnation, this day is a time for Francophone Canadians to celebrate and proudly embrace their unique heritage.
It is also a time to recognize the thousands of exceptional members of the Francophone community who achieve greatness and who give of themselves for the greater good: philanthropists, artists, leaders, innovators and visionaries, to name but a few. Their contributions help to make communities, the province of Quebec and this entire country a smarter and more caring place to live.
I wish everyone a joyous and delightful day.
