Message from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston,
Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada,
Following the Death of Sergeant Andrew Joseph Doiron
OTTAWA—My wife, Sharon, and I were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Sergeant Andrew Joseph Doiron of the Canadian Special Operations Regiment based at Garrison Petawawa, Ontario. Three of his brothers in arms were injured in this tragic incident, which occurred yesterday in Iraq.
We have a deep respect for the men and women who serve in the Canadian Armed Forces. They work daily to defend the values and ideals we hold dear, both here and abroad. They have an incredible sense of duty and merit our deepest admiration. We will never forget Sergeant Doiron’s sacrifice.
We join all Canadians in offering our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Doiron. We also wish those who were injured a prompt recovery. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
David Johnston
