Rideau Hall, Saturday, August 26, 2017
As we begin, let me acknowledge that we are gathered this evening on the traditional territory of the Algonquin people.
Welcome, all of you, to Rideau Hall!
Who among us doesn’t love movie nights? Here at Rideau Hall, we love celebrating Canadian film and television under the stars!
We’re so fortunate in this country to be home to some truly outstanding filmmakers, actors and producers. And yet we don’t celebrate that fact nearly enough.
Tonight, we aim to change that, by screening some uniquely Canadian content, which will include episodes of two Canadian shows and of course our feature film, the much-anticipated sequel, Bon Cop Bad Cop 2.
As you may have guessed from the title, it plays in both official languages!
This evening’s presentations showcase Canadian talent and offer a uniquely Canadian take on some beloved film and television genres.
They remind us that this country is unique, and also why Canadian film and television is viewed and admired around the world.
As governor general, it has been a privilege for me to present outstanding Canadian productions at Rideau Hall Movie Nights. Celebrating our cinema and television talent is a natural extension of what we do here.
I would like to thank all of our many partners who are committed to promoting Canada’s cultural vitality, as well as everyone who helped to make this evening possible.
And thanks to all of you who have joined us for the viewing party. Now sit back, relax, have some popcorn, and enjoy the shows!
