Explore the grounds of Rideau Hall at your own pace

Grounds are open from 8 a.m. until one hour before sunset.

The grounds of Rideau Hall—32 hectares (79 acres) of rolling lawns, winding paths, woods and gardens—were originally modelled on the style of an English country estate. Landscaping elements—such as the totem pole and inuksuk—are uniquely Canadian; evergreens are more prominent, and sugar maples make up most of the wooden areas.

Follow the paths on the grounds by downloading the self-guided tour brochure and learn from the numerous interpretive panels showcasing art and cultural pieces. Explore the more than 150 trees planted by members of the Royal Family, visiting heads of State and other dignitaries. 

Extend your visit to Rideau Hall by having a picnic on the grounds. Tables, shaded areas and vast expanses of lawn give you the perfect chance to relax and stretch your legs.
